    Rubber and Elastomers

American Zinc offers grades of high-purity French Process zinc oxide made exclusively from 99.995% pure zinc for rubber and elastomeric compounds. Lesser purity grades that are available in the North American market are made from zinc secondaries. This leads to considerably higher levels of impurities of oxides of lead, iron and cadmium in the zinc oxide. The presence of these impurities causes “heavy metal poisoning” of your compounds which results in a less durable and lower quality rubber, elastomer, or other end-product. The cost saved from the zinc oxide made with zinc secondaries may not be worth the risk of quality compromise. For this reason, American Zinc only offers the highest quality product.

Zinc oxide is an inevitable reactant in production of almost all zinc compounds. American Zinc produces zinc oxide exclusively from 99.995% pure zinc metal resulting in a negligible level of impurities in our product. Our high-purity and higher surface area French Process zinc oxide ensures that the target zinc compound will in turn carry a negligible level of impurities. Most times, separate processes are required to eliminate impurities which costs far more than the savings made if using zinc oxide of lesser purity. American Zinc is proud to offer high purity grades with a variety of surface areas to suit your needs.

Our high-purity French Process zinc oxide made exclusively using 99.995% pure zinc is best suited to the production of high-performance specialty lubricants, grease, and oil additives (e.g., ZDDP). American Zinc produces a consistent product that has a very low level of other metal impurities like lead, iron and cadmium, and moisture. A higher level of impurities such as the oxides of lead, iron, and cadmium lead to (lower) poorer lubricant performance, shortened life and the oxidation, pitting and wear on engines. When used in certain specialty greases, using the highest purity of zinc oxide available allows for better heat dissipation and inter-layer sheer slip.

Our high-purity French Process zinc oxide made exclusively using 99.995% pure zinc is best suited to formulating paints, coatings, and printing inks. High purity matters and the higher levels of oxides of lead, iron and cadmium, found in zinc oxide made with zinc secondaries makes it unsuitable. In addition, the presence of oxides of lead, cadmium and iron leads to dried film property-loss, and degradation, and these are also established contact poisons for human, animal, and marine life. For this reason, American Zinc offers only the highest quality product.

American Zinc produces a high purity zinc oxide made exclusively using 99.995% pure zinc metal for the glass and ceramic industry. The clarity of glass and the whiteness of ceramics is in inverse proportion to the level of impurities in the zinc oxide used. Zinc oxide grades made with zinc secondaries introduces oxides of lead, iron, and cadmium which leads to less clear glass, poorer temperature resistance, inferior insulation or thermal conduction in glass and ceramics. Hence, American Zinc recommends only the highest quality zinc oxide.

American Zinc produces zinc oxide exclusively from 99.995% pure zinc to deliver this. MOVs and surge arresters in their production are subjected to high-temperature and high-pressure molding. Because such a process and materials selection are for achieving specific electrical properties, the presence of other metal oxide impurities would counter act the purpose. Therefore, zinc oxide grades made from zinc secondaries that contain higher levels of other metal oxide impurities are unsuitable.

Zinc radical is a growth promoter in plants. Zinc radicals are absorbed into plants, either from the soil or foliage when zinc-fertilizer is applied and the radical combines with the enzyme catalyzing photosynthesis. This greatly increases crop yields. The most common zinc fertilizers are (1) Zinc sulfate, (2) Cheated zinc or Zinc-EDTA, (3) Zinc nitrate, and (4) Zinc-urea. American Zinc produces zinc oxide from 99.995% pure zinc to ensure that other metal impurities are extremely low and within tolerable limits for production of plant fertilizers. Lesser purity grades of zinc oxide are produced using zinc secondaries. Such grades contains much higher levels of lead, which is toxic to plant life and dangerous to consumption of those plants by humans or animals.

American Zinc produces zinc oxide exclusively from 99.995% pure zinc for use in the formulation of adhesives. Lesser purity grades that are available in the North American market are made from zinc secondaries which contain impurities of lead, cadmium and iron oxide. The presence of “heavy metal” impurities like lead, iron and cadmium partly reverses the very benefits zinc oxide brings to the tapes and adhesives.

Zinc oxide is a common ingredient of the plastics compounds to improve color fastness of other colorants in case of colored and translucent plastic compounds. Additionally, it imparts heat and light stability to plastic compounds which helps the clear compounds (and) retain their product transparency longer. Stretch film packaging, heat and light stabilization of PVC compounds, polymer fiber and their textiles are examples of the application. American Zinc produces zinc oxide exclusively from 99.995% pure zinc for use in plastics. Lesser pure grades of zinc oxide are made from zinc secondaries and contain impurities including the oxides of lead, cadmium, and iron. These impurities counteract the benefiting properties zinc oxide bring to plastics and polymers, and hence American Zinc only recommends the highest quality product for use in plastics.
